Objection 15
From Sovereign Grace and the Scope of Election: A Comparative Examination of Attainment Theology and Grace Theology, with Particular Attention to the Question of Whether God's Elect Are Found Among All Nations and Religions
Hebrews 10:26-29, "if we sin wilfully... there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins.
The context is the same apostasy: Jews under gospel light returning to animal sacrifices. The point is not that Christ's sacrifice expires, but that there is no other one to go back to, the Levitical altar is closed. And again the passage self-interprets two verses later: "But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul" (10:39). The regenerate are constitutionally "not of them who draw back." The warning is real, and it is one of the very means by which God preserves His people, a fence at the cliff edge does not prove the shepherd expects to lose sheep; it is how he keeps them.
