If final salvation can be forfeited, then Romans 8:29-30's chain breaks, John 10:28's "never perish" means "possibly perish," Philippians 1:6's "he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it" becomes "may perform it," and Christ's intercession (Hebrews 7:25, "able to save them to the uttermost... seeing he ever liveth to make intercession") fails for some He died for. The attainment system requires something very close to this: salvation begun by grace, finished by human overcoming. Galatians 3:3 asks the question that answers it: "Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?"
